The Sparrows of Pusan

goodlife guide

By Claire Youmans

This Sideways Story begins with the truce among humans, the dragons and the Umi-boze. Now, Shota’s sailing across the Sea of Japan to the country of Joseon! It’s not exactly legal, but he’s going offshore to deliver cargo to the foreign port of Pusan! When he’s asked to look up a Japanese sparrow who also crossed the sea, he agrees to accept another mission. But when he arrives, he finds the sparrow he’s looking for gone. Why have the local sparrows fled to the mountains? Can he find the missing Joseon sparrows? Will Shota find the missing birds and be able to help the sparrows of Pusan — and will they all be able to work together to help the sparrows of both Joseon and Japan?
